and we are back now, right after chris christie's pretty electric speech here at the republican national convention. as you pointed out, die ane, it did take him a little time to mention mitt romney. in the state of new jersey, here's the gamble, though, of chris christie i want to ask you about, a lot of emphasis on shared truths and sacrifices. is that where we are right now? >> we'll find out. it also sets mr. romney u challenge because people are going to be listening on thursday night for hard truths. so far, mr. romney has said there will be tax cuts paid for by an unspecified withdrawal of

now, abc 2news at 11. >> he went to that bathroom and put together that weapon. >> we are learning more about teen that opened fire on another student. what his attorney is saying. >> he jumped in the water to save waters and it may have cost him his life. >> you have seen the concrete barriers, the metal fences, now get set to see streets closed as we prepare for the grande prix. >> clear skies in maryland. we could see the impact from isaac. we are tracking the gulf coast which starts right now. >> first it's still the story that everybody is talking about. the shooting at perry hall. tonight the suspect's attorney said he didn't intend to shoot anybody. >> despite that police say he brought a gun, brought a double barrel shot gun in pieces to school on monday n that bag was also a bottle of vodka that he took sips.

>> i'm still scared. >> reporter: they came back for day two. >> it'll be weird going this to the lunch room. >> reporter: a large crowd gathered. a circle grew with thoughts of the 17-year-old who was shot. >> i always go in, say hello. >> reporter: a 15-year-old, went to his first two perioded, stashed a bag with a gun in a bathroom close to the cafeteria and then someone threw something near his table. >> now 10:45. >> reporter: police say he got his gun, came back and shot daniel. a counselor then held him down. >> he probably didn't say what was going on. he probably didn't have the courage to go to the principal and say i'm being bullied by these kids and it just kept adding up that he finally just snapped. >> reporter: no evidence at this point to say that bullying was a factor.

>> reporter: day to two, started in rain, ended in sun. student was shirts for daniel. maybe in says it all. a teen texting not paying attention to the police cars around them. >> class went well. it was quiet. >> reporter: there is a loud message tonight. . >> reporter: won't daniel we be surprised when he comes back to see how many near friends he now has. >> there is an effort from his friends to get lady gaga to perry hall to meet him. it's all over twitter. the hash tag gaga visit daniel. my the suspected shooter is charged as an adult. he is being held without bail. >> his stepfather is also facing charges but they have nothing to do with the shooting. while police say they were searching andrew piper's home they say they found illegal

weapons and drugs. piper was arrested but again police say the gun used in the shooting didn't come from piper's home. >> all right. all now we are following the search for a missing battener baltimore county. the coast guard said he went in to the water behind martin state airport and didn't come up. cheryl connor. >> reporter: we met john on land doing whatever he could to assist the search team. tonight we have learned his father was helping out other swimmers when he went under. the most helpless feeling tonight. john rushes to different points on the shoreline to find his father. >> i'm just -- searching for my father. >> reporter: the search is on the water in middle river. the 52-year-old went out on his boat with two friend around 11.

around 4:00 two people jumped in, the missing boater report came out around four. we watched the search team around 7:30 alongside people on the water. >> i got the binoculars. we saw divers in the water. we saw them tow a boat away. >> reporter: the two swimmers, were rescued and taken to the coast guard boat. john fears his father jumped into deep. >> the water changes temperature about ten feet under. it gets extremely cold and if you are under water you can feel the force of the water. >> reporter: that feeling the shore turned into a dark night and no word from the man who grew up on the water. >> stop anywhere, try to get information, try to have

everybody say if they have seen the coast guard, in fib has information. >> reporter: sot search was suspended at dark but crews will be out again tomorrow morning at 7:30, that includes a dive team, a spokesperson said they are still actively searching. . this tape involves a boat crash before ayodele gate admitted to drinking while operating his boat. the caller only identified as allen jumped on board a boat and they raised to the spot where the two boats crashed. as they did, the caller describes what he saw. >> one boat flying, seemed like over -- the other was -- i'm like 100 feet from the boat that was towing people.

the whole front is tore up. >> this man has his face bloody. >> on the tape you can clear the map helping everybody out of the water. so far no charges have been filed in the crash. >> as we speak isaac is storming over the gulf coast and made landfall just after eight tonight in the southeast louisiana section. they are getting pounded with wind and rain coming up later we will have a live report. first we will check in with wyatt. jamie -- a quiet night here. large hurricane here, continuing to move into the southeast corner of louisiana. we take you into the storm. you can see the radar echoes as it moves in to the big easy. here are the stats.

80-mile an hour sustained winds, it's as strong as isaac has been. it's low lying, almost swamp land down there in southeast louisiana. it doesn't take the edge off the hurricane nor will it over the next 12 to 24 hours, you can see some of the weather as we caught it from new orleans to the beaches of alabama here, rough surf as that comes in. very active weather. potential this storm will impact maryland by the weekend with showers. . we met him today and baltimore got a chance to meet him. this evening the new police commissioner was outon patrol. that joined residents -- to the bridge view greenlawn community. the mayor introduced that earlier in the day. tonight he met with residents and police officers, he said he

will continue to keep up the fight to keep the city safe and tonight he got to meet men and women on the frontline. >> i saw a lot of positives, stop and talked to a number of police officers, very impressed. they don't know who i was. >> reporter: he is police chief in long beach and oakland. if confirmed he will take over on september 27th. tonight at saint john's friends and family gathered to remember the life of jessica lee of brooklyn park. earlier her remains were found. first they fund her head and then further back in the woods the rest of her body. family members say she left home in may. they have been looking for her and never thought she would turn up dead. so far no arrests.

make sure that this city is able to function and hold a great event. >> reporter: construction that's been happening at night and this weekend. the racing will end earlier than last year in an attempt to support local businesses. >> people's next thought is i'm going to dinner. if we are done at nine they go to bed. >> reporter: now the final parts of construction are beginning, gates are being installed, closing charles street. those will remain in effect overnight tonight and tomorrow. during the race those and other sections will be closed all day and only reopened at night. if will kill us, just people will say no. they won't come down. >> reporter: they say that most rods are open as normal and there are other routes to get around the race course if you

while is behind many ads in they are called super pacs and jim others pond tells us about the game changing groups. >> reporter: it's the sting of those adds. >> even more americans jobless. >> that pack of heavy political punch. >> what would you do. >> reporter: john dunbar of said that the new machines behind them have changed everything about this president alley election. >> >> paid political ads, paid to get a specific reaction. >> reporter: many created by super pacs where money flows freely. a 2010 court ruling paved the way for the creating super pacs. they can take unlimited contributions from labor unions, corporations, and people. they can spend whatever they

want to work for against a candidate. >> air time, they use millions of dollars to place ads. >> reporter: liz of the sunlight foundation, a nonpart son watch dog group said the ruling makes them super powerful. restore our future, backing romney, tops the list. racing a whopping $89 million this cycle. that's followed by another group, american crossroads at $47 million. priorities usa action. the super pac on the democratic side rounds out at $25 million. >> democrats have not had the same success success. >> reporter: both sides are blanketing the airways with big dollars, and controversy. >> the biggest thing about them is the fact that we don't know right away who is behind it. >> once i write my check and send it to the super pac they can do whatever they want.

jim others >> stay skeptical watching the ads. >> because of the sunlight foundation there is now -- a new mobile app to find out more about the spots. it's all adhoc. . isaac is now a category one storm. >> far weaker than a hurricane that hit around the same time seven years ago tomorrow. >> reporter: isaac has just made landfall just recently and the wind as you can see is picking up. earlier this afternoon we are

talking about winds in the range of 40 miles an hour. those have picked up to 70 miles an hour with gusts expected over one hundred miles an hour. those gusts will cause a storm surge. that will cause a lot of flooding here in this area. it's the rain that's also a concern. isaac is very slow and will just kind of hover over the area for quite some time. dumping a lot of rain on top of it. a lot of people have evacuated. troops and police the only ones on the streets. some have decided to go head and stay. this will try to ride out the storm. we will be out here, we will cover this, the eye is expected to hit here in new orleans in the next couple hours. once that happen itself will be woman but after that it'll be the tail of isaac that's big

that's going to be a concern and will bring a lot of rain, it'll continue to dump on this area. we will be out here with the latest and will bring it to you in the coming days. back to you. >> now, maryland's most accurate forecast. >> you see conditions going downhill in louisiana. seven years to the day after we get to midnight of hurricane katrina's arrival, that was a category five. this is a category one storm meaning much less strength but still flooding rains. one to two feet of rain possible in places here in southeast louisiana. we take a look you can it going out of the area moving in. we have official landfall, the core will really not push through for the next day, really next 12 to 24 hours, you may say the next day. it's moving at seven miles an hour in the core is still 70

miles off the coast. again you can see the broad circulation thereof showers and cross mississippi, alabama, and the louisiana coast, large outer spirals. still reaching in to florida and again a significant large hurricane with strange timing, relative to hurricane katrina but a different storm, several feet of storm surge absolutely across the southeast coast of louisiana. the low sea level areas, new orleans below sea level. there will be flooding. the sustained winds at 80 miles an hour. the storm northwest at seven and 70 miles from new orleans. you get the idea it takes ten hours at 70 miles an hour for the center of the storm. we are talking tomorrow midmorning and then slowly the system will loose strength into -- from a cat one to a tropical storm. again low lying areas there won't take the punch out for several hours. long term the heavy rain will make its way up in to the upper

midwest and perhaps if we get enough curve with the winds we could see showers from the leftover moisture of isaac after sunday. labor damon even into tuesday and wednesday. the chance for isaac related showers, right here in maryland. want to show you the time l aps e. showers, downpours, winds picking up, we loose power. i can't show you sunset in new orleans but i can show you here in orange beach. on the louisiana line with alabama. look at that. huge surf and normally these are the type of beaches where you see almost no wave action and right now looks like a wild east coast day. incredible weather. across the gulf coast. 70 baltimore, we have humidity at 84%. the statewide temperatures are coming down now here locally as cooler, dryer air drifts in out of the north and west. look at this alarm area of dry

. service dogs take lots of money and time to train. not everybody makes the cut. >> this beautiful black lab didn't quite make the club. she had to much energy. that didn't stop her from helping out others. >> she loves being in the water and saving from drowning. it was just an extra, activity for her. then we -- realized she loved it. >> each time she jumps she races awareness and places for more service dogs, their goal is to raise $20,000. >> we will be right back.
